NYK takes delivery of new ore carrier On October 28, Wugang Innovation, a new 250,000- DWT class ore carrier built by Namura Shipbuilding Co. Ltd was delivered to NYK, according to Exim News Service.
This is NYK's second such 250,000-DWT class ore carrier, which is built to carry the maximum loading capacity allowed at ports in Western Australia, an area that has design limitations on the load draught of ships transporting ore.
At the naming and delivery ceremony, Mr Zhu Jiangyue, Chief Procurement Officer of Wuhan Iron & Steel (Group) Corp. (WISCO), and a number of other dignitaries were in attendance to celebrate the maiden voyage of the vessel.
The vessel will be chartered exclusively to WISCO over 20 years to transport iron ore, mainly from Australia and Africa to China. This is NYK's first contract with WISCO
