Geneva's Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), the world's second largest carrier, has announced it is going to increase the rates for its Far East-Australia Panda and Wallaby services by US$300 per TEU from March 15, according to the Shipping Gazette.
The rate increase applies to sailings from Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
MSC is a slot buyer on the five-ship Panda service operated by Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd, APL, and Hyundai, averaging 4,483 TEU for each vessel, reports ComPair Data, adding that the loop calls at Kaohsiung, Shenzhen-Yantian, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and back to Kaohsiung.
With an average ship capacity of 4,423 TEU, the 11-vessel Wallaby service is jointly operated by Maersk Line with six ships, Safmarine, three ships, and MSC, two ships. Its butterfly rotation includes Jakarta, Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Yokohama, Osaka, Busan, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle and back to Jakarta |
